Two years ago my husband lost his job after 23 years with the same company. I went into the work force at Christian Supply a christian bookstore. One day on my way to work I was praying and asking God what could we do to help others not knowing how we were going to do much since our income had been cut in half without our expenses being cut in half. That evening I went on break and happened to sit at Glenna’s desk (not a normal thing for me to do) and she had a magazine that said 50 Things you can do with $5. Being the frugal person that I am began reading, there were ideas to do with your children, decorating ideas and number 49 was to be a philanthropist for $5. You could buy a chicken for a family to help them to eat with the eggs and to sell them. Well I went back on the floor and continued to pray and got very excited. I kept thinking of all the things you could do with five dollars, a gift card to McDonald’s could feed someone, I learned that bus tokens were $2.50 for a day pass, that would be 2 day passes. I just got so excited and started to share with people that God put on my heart and they got excited with me and we began by purchasing 22 bus tokens for the local family homeless shelter. To think that something as small as a bus pass could change a families life by getting them to the doctor or a job interview, WOW. We have fed children in orphanages, we did shoe boxes for samaritans’ purse, through KIVA we have helped start 2 business and helped those in Japan.

Mother Theresa said “Do small things with great love”. God loved us so much that he gave us His one and only Son Jesus to redeem us to Himself. We are not Donald Trumps but our goal is to love great and let God do the changing of lives five dollars at a time. He takes our little and makes it much.
